Artspace Peterborough is a non-profit, artist-run contemporary art centre located in downtown Peterborough, Ontario. Founded in 1974 the organization has grown into one of Canada’s earliest and most respected artist-run centres.
For over five decades, Artspace has supported emerging and established artists through exhibitions, programming, and community engagement initiatives that explore contemporary art practices across multiple disciplines.
This project involved developing a new logo and visual identity system that reflects Artspace’s legacy while positioning the organization for the future. The design needed to capture the gallery’s identity as a place for experimentation, dialogue, and artistic collaboration while remaining adaptable across print, digital, and environmental applications.
Artspace Peterborough was founded by a collective of artists who wanted to create a platform for independent artistic expression outside of traditional institutional galleries. The centre was established as a member-driven organization dedicated to supporting contemporary artists and encouraging experimentation with new ideas and forms of artistic practice.
Key design objectives included:
Creating a distinctive and recognizable logo that could represent the gallery across multiple contexts.
Designing a mark that reflects contemporary art and experimentation.
Ensuring the identity is scalable and functional for print, digital, signage, and exhibition materials.
Maintaining a timeless aesthetic that would remain relevant for years to come.
Developing a system that could integrate seamlessly into Artspace’s evolving programming and communication materials.
“Cameron did exceptional work redesigning Artspace’s logo and creating a branding guidline for the gallery. Cameron paid close attention to details and the end results exceed our expectations.”
